The Supreme Court: America's Highest Judicial Authority
The Supreme Court receives thousands of petitions every year on how to act. There is a total of 9 justices that will be considering many issues among the government. The Supreme Court remains the powerful and judicial body in the U.S, where they talk amongst themselves in private. Supreme Court
The Power of Public Faith
Even though the nine justices that discuss these issues, the power rests on public faith. The Supreme Court resolves this matter by going back to the Constitution. They have been doing this for about 200- years which upholds the rule of law.
What an interesting fact about the Supreme Court Justices is that, they can take more than 3 years to adjust to their new life. This is very fascinating because this shows that it is not easy to rule as a Supreme Court Justice and how it affects their life outside the court room. This reveals how difficult it is to be a part of the Supreme Court since they have to solve several dilemmas and have to decide disputes.
The Dred Scott Case
Another interesting case is the Dred Scott case. This was one of the most divisive issues in American history. Dred Scott was a Missouri slave who claimed his freedom under an act of congress. The court ruled that they had no power to ban slavery and that Blacks could never be citizens. This rule then weakened the courts authority for many years. After the American Civil War slavery was abolished and this was turned into the 14th amendment.
The Unspoken Contract
When the Supreme Court speaks by and large, people obey. The Unspoken Contract is one of the hidden keys to American freedom. If the court would ever stop defending the constitution or the people ever, or the people ever stopped listening, then one of the treasures that keeps this the freest nation in the world would cease to exist.
